NEW YORK CITY — A Filipino teacher here has received recognition for teaching science and mathematics to public high school students.
Eleuterio Timbol was recently honored with the 2024 SLOAN Award for Excellence in Teaching Science and Mathematics.
According to the Fund for the City of New York website, the award is given to teachers "who go to great lengths to help their students shine."
"These are educators who achieve superb results while inspiring youth to excel in science and mathematics and pursue careers in related fields," it said.
Timbol, who was raised in the Philippines as one of nine children to a homemaker and a mechanic, currently teaches at High School for Law Enforcement and Public Safety.
