Senator Raffy Tulfo claimed that some corrupt officials in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allegedly ask for ₱5 million to ₱20 million from a company to speed up the process for its products’ approval.
During the Senate deliberations on the Department of Health's 2023 budget, Tulfo cited a complaint from a pharmaceutical firm that waited for three to five years for its certificate of product registration (CPR) renewal.
Tulfo added that he was told the "asking price" stood at millions per product.
“I spoke to a previous [director general]. She admitted to me na graft-ridden ang inyong agency and she admitted to me five million to 20 milion ang bawat produkto,” Tulfo claimed. “That's why she said she's gonna put a stop to it pero hindi niya napigil, hindi niya naputol ang practice na 'yon. That's why natanggal siya.”
